BRUNEAU
Bruno Schnieders (1957 - 2025, Antwerp)
THE ANTWERP CULT FIGURE
Bruneau, the pseudonym of Bruno Schnieders, is a seminal figure in the Antwerp art scene. Born in Wilrijk in 1957, he has lived and worked in Berchem for decades, becoming what many call an "Antwerp cult figure" since the 1980s.
His work is a explosion of vibrant colors, humor, and a relentlessly positive outlook on life. Drawing from the visual language of comics, cartoons, and the energetic lines of artists like Keith Haring, Bruneau has developed a style that is both instantly recognizable and deeply personal.
ARTISTIC VISION
A prolific creator, Bruneau's output is legendary, with an estimated catalog of over 30,000 drawings. He frequently works in series, finding profound inspiration in the simplest of themes—a café chair, a stack of hats, or everyday objects that he transforms through his playful lens.
His resilience is as noteworthy as his art. Despite experiencing blindness, Bruneau's creative drive remained unextinguished. He has resumed drawing, continuing to contribute his unique perspective to the Belgian art landscape.
